am stuck
so am going with a single card in my system but which one should i go for 3700fx and forget about gaming is it worth it, the speed up?

am getting a new system these are the specs

nehalem 3.2 GHZ

something about 12GB ram DDR3

gtx 280/ new version waiting for it.

ASUS X58 motherboard

2x 300gb sata 10000 rpm raid 0 ( maybe i'll go with 4x 150GB 10k raid 0, if the raid controler on the mobo will support 4 of these?.

windows vista ultimate 64bit

isnt this enough speed for rendering or should i remove the gtx and add a 3700 fx?
am still waiting for most of the hardware to come out.

As far as I know having an uber fast graphics card will not effect raytrace rendering. I believe when rendering in 3D software its CPU you want over GPU. But as for pushing polygons around in realtime (Modelling for instance) or testing 3D animation the fx card has a huge advantage over the mainstream gaming card.

Simple answer is that no, yuo cannot run an fx with the 280 as in vista the display addapters must have teh same driver.. which they wouldnt.

However, this would be possible in windows 7, and is possible in XP.. though would require a couple displays or a switch box to work 'well.'

As for your hidden question about Raid0.. the onboard controller can probably handle 4 in raid0.. but it would be pushing it. While it will certainly work so far as combining the storage the performance boost would run into bandwidth maxs. For a raid like that it is definitely a good idea to get an add on controller, though they are pricey.
