q9550 vs q6600

Q9550 is always faster than a q6600

Multi on q9550 = 8.5
Multi on q6600 = 9

At the same clock the q9550 is always going to be faster than the q6600 by about 10%

So lets say your motherboard can go up to a fsb of 400

q9550 = 8.5 X 400 = 3400 mhz
q6600 = 9 X 400 = 3600 mhz

q9550 = 3.4 ghz
q6600 = 3.6 ghz

Right there it looks like the q6600 is faster, but you forgot that the q9550 is faster by about 10% clock for clock

q9550 = 3.4 X 1.1 = 3.74
q6600 = 3.6 X 1 = 3.6

Q9550 is faster and only about a 100$ more, i'd get the q9550

If there's a $100 price difference, then I guess the real question is, whether $100 is worth a 10% performance increase to you.

If your motherboard your looking at is in the $200+ range and your ram is near $100, then build a i7 rig.

Even if your ram is only 50 and your mobo is 150, still go with the i7 for $100 more then what your currently looking at if you get the 9550.

Agreed with roadrunner, if you choose the q9550 I'd look into the i7, unless money is an issue. If you cant afford the i7, I'd go for the q6600, 10% for $100 doesnt seem worth it

I agree with roadrunner also. However, if your not rebuilding the whole computer and therefore not spending the money for i7, then what do you mainly use your computer for?

im gonna build a whole new rig and im limited too 1700 1900 tops canadian dollars and the whole setup is 100% gaming

then if your sticking with lga 775 go with an e8600 (for the overclock headroom) or get an e8500 and save $100. build out the rest and save for an i7. But you could always get an i7....

Thats enough for an i7 system and well worth it, maybe you should wait for Phenom II just to be sure.
