4gig of ddr2 ram - sure upgrade to 4gigs

Vista 64 - Not worth it. Ya 32bit won't recognize all 4gigs, probably 3.5 around if your gpu is 512. Buying 64bit just to get the other 512mb doesn't justify the cost of buying it. I'd wait and save the money for windows 7.

E6600 is plenty powerful and good enough OC, though E8400 is cooler and OC better. If you could sell ur E6600 to offset the cost of the E8400.... Comes down to how much you'll willing to spend to upgrade and OCing.

just being interested in the upgrade, il skip vista for sure then, the money isnt too much of an issue is just a question of whether or not i should do it, i would prob just sell the other mobo/ram/cpu for £100 quid otherwise it will just collect dust. so really the question is is there enough of a difference to justify the upgrade

enough difference? No. CPU wise, the E6600 is plenty powerful and will not bottleneck the 8800GT. As to ram, check sure ram usage to see if your daily tasks / gaming are reaching the 2gb limit to determine if you need to add more ram. Rule of thumb for vista with 2gb is a nono. XP 2gb I find it to be just right.

Just a quick heads up. Check your motherboard's CPU Compatibility List to make sure the E8400/E8500 will work on it.
