I recently upgraded my computer from;

Motherboard: Asus A8N-E, socket 939
Memory: 3Gig Patriot dual channel PC 3200 (400mhz)
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 4600+
VideoCard: VisionTek 4850 512 DDR3
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit

With this setup my 3dMark06 score was 8792

My new build;

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-DS4H AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX
Memory: OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 1066 DDR2
CPU: AMD Phenom 9950 BLACK EDITION Agena 2.6GHz

Same videocard and OS, 3dMark06 score 10744.

I was expecting a bigger boost in performance then just 2000 points. Is this a normal score for my build or do i need to tweak some setting to get nigher FPS. I know im using the same videocard but the motherboard, cpu, and memory alone are about 2 generations ahead of what i was using.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be great, thanks for your time.

yehh, thats about normal. but your are using windows vista ultimate 64bit so that could be slowing 3dmark06 down. that is strange though, you should be getting atleast from either 11000-12000 with that configuration. my rig has a 3870 and im getting around 10350. but i also have windows XP.

my geuss would be your OS causing the major slowdown but im not pausitive.

sorry

To boost the score further, you`ll need to delve into the Black Magic of overclocking although it wo n`t hurt to check your BIOS settings to check everything is optomised for your particular rig first.
But then again, I only get about 11000 @stock or about 13000 @3.0 GHz even though the infamous Crysis will benchmark at 37 fps @ 1920x1200 @stock!
Really, as long as your games play well, treat 3D Mark 06 for what it is, just a benchmark, although a big score is welcome the real test is how well your games play.
BTW, anyone think a HD4870/GTX260 might be a better pairing with the Phenom?

yehhhh lol, a quadcore seems a little overkill for a 4850. but hey, cant ever have too much power;)

you should push that 9950 further as it is a BE. my 5000+ BE is at 3.12GHZ OCed and is running very stable. im sure you could push AMD's flagship proccessor ALOT further...

with proper cooling of course
