HP Compaq drivers

Hi, I hope you can offer some assistance with this problem.

I have recently formatted and installed a fresh copy on XP pro onto a friends laptop. Now the problem that I am having is trying to find drivers for it so I can connect to the internet (Wired or wireless, it doesn't matter just now). I have tried both intel and HP website using these links:

Intel:

So far, I have installed the Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility (From the intel website, which didn't seem to do anything) and ATI Video Driver/ Control Panel (From the HP website). There are a lot of network drivers on the HP site but I have no idea which would would work (If any at all).

All I want is internet access on this laptop, then I can start to install the service packs/windows updates as well as other drivers and software.

I hope someone can help me with this, as it's really starting to annoy me now. If it was my laptop I would have probably thrown it somewhere by now .

It seems that the laptop has Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet card.

I managed to find the driver I needed on the HP site, now knowing what Ethernet card it has.

windows should be able to find the drivers for your wireless card once connected to the internet

Hi,

So I have managed to get everything else up and running but I have one problem.
The wireless internet will not connect to any access points. When I try to connect using the windows wireless network connection it will show a list of access points (Including my own) but when I try to connect I get a message saying:

"Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available network, and try to connect again"

After a bit of searching, a lot of solutions seems to point to here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884787/en-us but the problem with that is I only have 2 data encryption options, WEP and open. Now, my password/key is a word followed by a set of numbers, therefore it will not accept it, saying the password must be "... 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration..."

I have all of the windows updates installed now (Service pack 3) and when I go onto the windows website and try to update from there, it says that I have all of the updates.

check in the device manager what type of wireless network card you have and see if you can find newer drivers on the HP or manufacturer website.

Windows does not always have the latest drivers.

try to avoid installing the network card managing software that might come with the drivers. Windows should be the one managing the hardware. Extract the drivers and use the Windows update feature and point it to the folder with the drivers.

I managed to find the correct drivers and as mentioned. Everything is now running as it should. Again, thanks for your help!
