Video Card - ASUS 9800gt Ultimate It's a dual slot video card with a better cooling system. Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814121266 The cooling system is the same as the "EVGA Akimbo Cooler."

Whenever I start up a game the fan speed increases and the fan gets very loud (can hear it in more than 1 room in house). Once I exit the game, the fan after a minute or so becomes quiet again.

I used ASUS Smartdoctor to manually adjust fan speed and automatically adjust fan speed and both didn't work. Manual worked until I started a game, and fan went to becoming loud again.

Uninstalled Smartdoctor, installed Nvidia nTune, results were same as above.

I don't know why the manual fan speed setting doesn't keep a consistent noise level. No matter what I do the fan ends up reaching the same loud noise level. I know that the speed increases under high gpu usage, but I can't change the how fast it becomes.

have you checked temperatures? on the "auto" setting, the fan will go to 100% at around 80 degrees Celcius. Which is bad. You may need to reseat the heatsink.

The temp goes at most just above 50 degrees celcius. What happens is that when the manual fan speed is applied, the fan speed increases the same way as the auto setting. I wish to apply a consistent fan speed to reduce noise. With the heatsink, my card came with the cooler already installed.

Use rivatuner. It has much more support than nTune or smartdoctor.

rivatuner didn't work either

Edit: I used the Nvidia Physx Cloth Demo while using RivaTuner to view gpu temps. Right when I started the demo, the fan speed increased. While doing the demo, the gpu temp was at a constant 48 degrees celcius.

sorry dude, it looks like you might have to bios mod or return it. if you have a flash drive, i can help you with the bios mod. Its very easy. That will definitely fix the problem.
If you want to wait a few weeks then go for the rma.
Also see if you can get on the phone with the maker of the card. Ask them if this is normal and if a bios mod will void the warranty. Alot of manufactures don't mind but some might.

Thanks. Those are good suggestions. Everytime I increased the fan speed of the video card, I would still hear the same loud noise. Well, I actually discovered that my case/cpu fan is making the noise! I guess my case/cpu fan is running faster due to more heat from my video card. Should I change the case fan speed then? If so, how?

Thats interesting. I have no idea how to control the case fans. You could buy a fan controller but those are kind of expensive.

Bought a new and better fan with manual control knob that goes in a pci slot.

Did that fix your problem?
