Hi,
I just purchased a core i7 920 with Gigabyte ud5 board and corsair ddr3 2gb (2*1gb) kit. i want triple channel mode and so i am contemplating buying 1 more 1gb ddr3 stick. i might not get the same make, brand or CAS, but i heard that Intel Flex Memory allows you to mix and match RAM of different specifications. i want to know whats the extent i can mix and match, i.e. make, brand, speed, size and CAS latency... anyone can help me on this?

Most dual/tripple channel board will allow you to mix and match but will will scale everything to match the slowest and in some cases may be less stable to it is far better to get a matching stick.

Hmm...Yep, correct... i have the Corsair 2*1gb ddr3 1333mhz 9-9-9-24 and so if i buy lets say apogee or crucial or any other brand 1333mhz 9-9-9-24 1gb (if i get it in the firstplace) so there shouldnt be any probs then....?

It will "probably" work but mixing and matching memory is never recommended if you can avoid it. Also, I am not aware of any testing on this as it is too random at times. The only way to know is to install and test it yourself.

And, I am not certain we even sell single DDR3 modules so not adding the exact same memory lowers your odds and also your likelihood of success.

Good luck to you.

Thanks, Corsair Tech Support for your valuable input. i think i will stick with the 2gb in dual channel mode and wait it out till i can afford to pick up a 3gb pack...
Thanks everyone...
