Token-ring is no longer used (the fastest was 16 Mbps). It's main advantage was very good performance on a very busy LAN because each node was given an opportunity to transmit. Collisions on busy Ethernet networks were an issue at 10 Mbps, but switches and 100 Mbps or faster NICs make them as good as Token-Ring and much less expensive to implement. Wikipedia has some good info on Token-Ring: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Token-ring
