Are there any links anywhere about studies concerning flat panels - power consumption etc. It's accepted they are better than CRT's but is there anything in writing??

Don’t know of any scientific studies that say LCD is better than CRT’s or visa versa. There are studies that show an increase in productivity when using larger better quality monitors, the most notable by Alistair Sutcliff & Peter Faraday University of Northampton London.

LCD monitors typically consume half the power of a CRT monitor. Does power consumption justify the added cost of a LCD? Not really, I have worked the numbers up down and sideways, and they all tell me that it will take around ten years for the lower power consumption of an LCD monitor to compensate for its higher price.

CRT and LCD each have it advantage. I have 2 dual monitor workstations. Each have a lCD and CRT. LCD have better image quality. The text and picture are a lot more clear on LCD and there is no distortion. It also better for eyes. I only use the CRT for games and movies.

Lots of info at SID, can you point to a specific study that claims one is better than the other??

The EPA studies many, many products in relation to their complete life-cycle, and of course energy usage, recyclability, etc. I imagine you would think it near-sighted to use only monetary value, or electricity costs, as the only measure of the suitability or 'goodness' of a product, so you must already have reasons for preferring LCD?

You know what's funny? Generally people agree that LCD is better for the eyes. Issue is it's
A) so bright it hurts when sitting for prolonged periods
B) even when "black" lots of light still gets through (I use rainy day scheme + black background on my comp so it's nice and boring and easy on my eyes, but on lcd it stil hrust)
C)Someone here mentioned they noticed flickering w/ FRC circuitry.....wouldn't that cause more eyestrain cause it'd be as bad as say a 60hz refresh rate?

If I recall CRT monitors emit radiation whereas LCD's do not.

Reply to azgard

The issue is that this radiation is insignificant. Go outside- ur getting the same amt of radiation, if not more then...
