Noise from an empty DVD drive

Unlike other forum members, my DVD-writer in my Dell Vostro 410 has started to make noise when empty. Sounds like its looking for a disc. Should I be concerned?

Does it do it randomly? when your afk and such? constantly spinning? Pretty much all drives do that when you open and close it again as it searches for a disk, but it stops after a few moments

Any anti-virus programs running automatic scans?

My desktop (running Windows 7) and laptop (running Windows Vista) both do the same thing whenever I start a virus scan. It only lasts a few seconds, though. Opening Windows Media Player does the same thing.
