unless you do a lot of mutlitasking, a quad core is not required for a conservative gaming rig, as far as games performance goes you will get better bang for the buck with a dual core.
Other than that, everything looks compatible and pretty well balanced (although with ram prices the way they are, 4g might make sense for extra speed in vista by taking advantage of precaching with that powerful processor)
Thanks. I'll probably go with an E8500 as suggested by someone on another board since they told me the same thing about quad cores and gaming. I'll probably be going 4gb or 8gb later on with Vista. Heres an updated parts list:
Changes approved.
8GB won't be necessary but 4GB now would be a good idea.
The P5Q Pro is a Crossfire MB - not SLI but if you're just using a single 9800GT for now that isn't a problem.
I would definitely go with 4GB off the bat, especially with Vista 64-bit. 64-bit Vista actually uses a little more RAM and is a lot happier with 4GB. With the prices of RAM right now, there is no reason not to go with 4GB.
Thanks for the help. I'll definitely be going with 4GB of RAM then. Changed some stuff up to save about $100, the Antec 300 had a combo deal with an Antec true power trio 650W for only $119. So I ended up buying that last night to start the build, I figured I can just custom fit a window on the 300. Also I decided to go with the Q6600 again since I figure it might be more future proof with the quad core and chose a smaller hard drive. Also can anyone reccomend a nice CPU fan, preferably with an LED(I like pretty lights, lol). Let me know what you guys think.
Well, here she is. The build went really smooth, no problems and surprisingly quick considering this was my first build ever. Not completely done, better CPU cooler, new card later on and some case mods.
