out of all those cards the 4870 1 gig is marginally stronger. But each one of those cards exchange blows, it just depends on the games you like to play.
The 260 GTX is found to be a very good overclocker, and has been OCed to outperform a standard 280 GTX or at least perform as well as 1.
Can you please give us your system specs? because for the around the same cash, the 9800 GX2 might benefit you, seeing as it's the second strongest card on the market.

hdtv sony 720p soon wil be a 1080p thats why i want no upgrade
I alredy have a 8800gtx that I know thw fps will drops when I play at 1080p
You sir have a very fine card. I would say the upgrade is almost not worth it as the 8800GTX ~ 4850 which is only one step away from the 4870 or GTX260. Also your 8800 GTX already has 768 MB of Vram so you are pretty set for higher resolutions
The 8800 GTX < 4850 hands down. More over all those cards that you listed are lacking at that res. At 1920x1080 only the 4870x2 is able to handle the most demanding title with little to no comprimise.
The 1Gb 48xx cards are not worth the extra $$. I would wait for the 4850x2 if I were you.

A single 4850 is not faster than the 8800GTX hands down, and even when it is the difference is very small. I'd say the 8800GTX's wider memory bus, and larger memory pool will serve him better at 1920x1080 than a single 512MB 4850 will. Unless he's getting a GTX 280 or 4870 X2 he it'd be a complete waste of money to upgrade.

Well the most demanding title is Crysis, and both the 260 GTX and the 280 GTX single solutions beat the 4870 X2
The only thing I don't really like about the 4870 X2 is the price tag (I was hoping for something around 499$ max, and also the heat it produces is out of this world!!!!
The fastest cards are 4870 X2, 9800 GX2, 280 GTX, 4870 1 gig~260 GTX SP216 and 260 GTX~4870 512.
The reason i put the 260 GTX tri-sli at the 4870 X2 quad is because the X2 still needs to see some quad drivers optimization, in a lot of games I've seen, the gain is close to nil.
From my own experience quad sli is def not a very good solution, and I wouldn't sway its way again. After I went from Quad GX2 to 280 GTXs (Quad GX2s are supposed to be better), the lack of proper drivers (which are actually alot more mature than the 4870 X2s) still makes games buggy, even though the gains in some games were really amazing. Then when I went to tri-sli solution, there was no competition, but thats another story.
8800 GTX has the power, but its @ half the power of 1 GX2.
Like I said your cheapest proper solution would be a 260 GTX for around 200$ if you want a very well performing card and have the extra cash then either the 4870 1 gig or 260 GTX SP216 would do you some good (the 216 I don't recommend over the old since the old OCs better and yields better results in the end)
P.S
@ bydesign, the 4850 does win alot of the batters, but the extra Vram in the 8800 GTX will render it champion at higher resolution or with AA on.
@ heyyou, he wouldn't really be wasting his money if he buys either a 260 GTX or a 4870, he doesn't really need to go for 280 GTX to make a hefty chance. That card outperforms the 260 GTX and the 4870 only by an average of 5-10 fps (In high resolutions even less!).
If you still not convinced, why don't you go with a 260 GTX BFG or a EVGA. Both companies have a Step up program, and if you change your mind you have 90 days from EVGA and 100 days from BFG to change your card to a faster or better card.

I suggest that you try your new display first, and see how you do with your games. I suspect that you will do just fine. A small jump in vga power is not that noticeable. In your case, you are looking at a GTX280 or 4870X2 class card. Better yet, wait a bit and see what is coming from ATI and NVIDID in time for Christmas.
Right now I can set my res to 1920*1080 even is the hdtv does no not have the pixel and it looks
overscan, but for my 8800gtx its the same 1920*1080 and when i play cod4 at 2xsupersampling at 1920*1080 the fps drops to 25 30 somtimes sometime at 60 buy in average 45 so indeed its gonna get choppy when i bought the 1080p
I think that with a gtx260 or a 48701gb will be 4Xaa and playable like 60fps and up.
