Hello people! I'm buying a new system since my current computer is getting out of date (bought it back in 2002). Much have happened since then and I've not been interested enough to be kept updated.
I would love if someone could give me feedback on the components I've chosen, point out if there's a weakness and then what to change. I'm only going to play some single-player games, do school work, surf the internet and watch movies. Sometimes use photoshop and such.
Ok, see if you can get an Antec 300 case, because you need lots of airflow to keep the 4850 from heating up the inside of your case. While the 330 you list might look OK, it won't really do the job right. The vents on the side will do more to interrupt air flow, rather than help.
Look for an ASUS or Gigabyte P43 or P45 board. Those will all be pretty safe bets.
On the RAM, get a 4GB, 2x2GB, kit of PC6400... but make sure it's 1.8V and has a CAS of 5 or better. Mushkin makes an excellent kit if you can find it.
If you can upgrade to the WD 640 "AAKS" model that would be good... otherwise that Seagate will do.
Could you give examples on good hardware for the components you didn't agree on. Regarding memory and mother board I've got no clue, whatsoever. A friend tipped me on the Abit mother board while I picked the memories because I thought they fit my purpose.
Except these, do you think it looks good? And what's the difference between P43 and P45 in a, for me, understandable language.
Cooler Mastercooler master Elite 334 (Antec 300, 900, 1200, p18x are all good)
Corsair Powersupply 650W (good choice, modular version I hope)
Abit IP35 Pro Xe (Go for P45 if it is only a 10-20 bucks more)
Intel Core 2 QUAD Q6600 (not bad if you need the multitask work alot ie video editing, encodign ect, else if you only do it rarely better off going with e8400, i dun know why pp get e8500 when it costs a few bucks more since I think e8400 and e8500 are the same chip just OC e8400)
2xCorsair XMS2 6400 DDR2ddr2 , 2048MB (not sure if you mean 2x 2048 or 2x added to 2048 but if it is 2x 2gb then this is good then, if not get 4gb)
Seagate Barracudabarracuda 500gb 7200rpm 32mb (need to be more specific, hitachi & wd came out with new drives that are supposedly much better than the older ones even seagate .11, though they are saying the 1.5tb seagate are improved as well. See tom's recent review on the hds).
Been looking at Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3 which at first glance looks like a good board, got a bit worried over a few bad user's reviews on a Swedish website. I mean 2x2048. The hd mentioned above is twice the price though, which I'm not interested in paying.
i would suggest getting a newer processor. the Q6600 is 65nm, while the newer ones a 45nm. the difference isn't huge, but you would probably benefit more from something like an E8400, which is clocked much higher and can oveclock to at least 3.8Ghz. and the 45nm process means it'll run cooler.
