Hello,

I am not an expert, and I haven't follow all the hardware for a while.

I have an older computer, and I would like to change to go to a SATA and pci-e architecture.

My motivation is gaming, I am playing Warhammer online, I would have 1 or 2 crashes in 2 hours and after a point my monitor would turn of. After, I need to wait 30 minutes the system to rest to run again
I have a Intel 3gHz proc, and a old nv6800 card (at least 5 years old for the gpu, 1.5yo for the cpu)

Anyway.. all of this motivates my choice or building a new computer.

My goal is to build a computer that will run Warhammer online properly, and Darfall online (hopefully coming out soon)
and a PC that should be able to follow my needs for 2-5 years with minimum upgrades.

So, using Newegg, there is what I came up with :
My only concern is : it s 1600 $... is there a way to do something cheaper ?
And is the configuration I made OK ?

Second point is : Windows Xp or Vista ?

well the psu you picked out is overkill. you only need 600-800watts for that system. get something with good amps on the 12V rail. also you picked out a really nice mobo but you could probably cut some corners in that department. great cpu. wonderful case. if its cheaper i would go with a unoverclocked graphics card and overclock it your self. and for os i have to say defiantly go with vista. i love it. if passable go to like a best buy or something and mess with a computer that has vista on it. it wont run as well cause these manufactures put so much junk on there computers but you will get the chance to kinda see a little what it looks like. its really pretty similar to xp just looks better.

I'd agree with ilovebarny. Cut back in the power supply, and motherboard. Also, $150 for 4 Gig of RAM is a bit much IMO. I noticed you have an IDE DVD-ROM drive. Any reason for not going SATA on that?

I see that you have an X48 mobo and two nvidia cards. Nvidia cards won't run in sli on that board. You will need an sli board if you want a multiple card set-up. I would get Radeon 4870s if you are going to keep that board.

Thanks you for you comments, I really appreciate them.
The dvd-rom was totally a mistake...

Anyway,
There is the rev 2 :
the mobo should now be good for SLI.
I am only buying 1 GPU for the moment, maybe buy the 2second one in 2-3 month.

I changed the power supply, is 500W ok ? it says SLI certified...
I changed for cheaper memory

Please share your comments :)

well i its kinda hard to see the psu but it will probably be fine for one card. i would get a 650watt if you are absolutely going to go with SLI. but for one card systems 500watts is fine. you need to make sure it has at lest 18 amps on the 12V rails though. more is better but 18amps will do. also just a note, newegg had ocz ddr-800 ram 4gb for like 72$. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] _-Homepage
a lot of people say here on THF that pc-8500 is overkill and pc-6400 will work just fine. and pc-6400 is usually cheaper.

ok.. so same config as before, but I am chnaging the case and power supply :

case : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811147083

PSU : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817182070

psu : 850W, 20A on the 12V rail
I do not understand :
SLI 8800GTX SLI on the psu...
does that mean I can only use the GTX board ?
Or will it be OK with the 8800 GTS board ?

Reply to feydreva

no that just means that it supports two GTX's. you can use it for any thing.

ok I guess we are close to the end :

This is my probable final configuration...
Let me know if you see anything wrong, or anything stupid :)
and If everything seems fine, I will pass the Order :)

after reading the review of the mobo, i was thinking about taking : EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard instead and moving to a bigger case
Review about the previews mobo was it was to small to fit 2 pci-e card and some pople had issue with it...

Rosewill PSU are pieces of crap. You should absolutely not get that. Pick one of these.
