This is the sound card i want to connect it to http://www.overclockers.co.uk/show [...] 088000000) .. i just need to no how to connect it and if any body knows if this really works and gives you the full 5.1 dolby digital sound.... i understand that i have to use a optical cable from the vga.

if you cant understand that i sort of mean what this person also means http://www.xtremesystems.org/forum [...] p?t=201935 although i thought you had to plug the avg, rca cables into it to?

yeap thats correct, im using logitech x-540 pc speakers, i read that by puting the optical cable ect into the soundcard it will decode it allowing it to play at the full capabilities of 5.1 dolby digital.

I am not familiar with sound card in question. You Should try contacting Creative suport or try Creative forums.

I have my xbox connected to my sound card, i was apprehensive at first but its actually really simple. like you said, you just run and optical cable out fot the back of the xbox and into the sound card. and it just works with a bit of tinkering

Are you guys getting dolbe digital 5.1 or just PCM stereo. What did you have to mess with to get it to work. I'm running a Creative X-FI Xtreme Audio soundcard and creative 7.1 system and trying to get the Xbox 360 to play through my speakers in dolbe digital...right now I'm just getting 2.1 boo!

Thanks.

i seen some one doing it like this http://digimods.e-visionit.co.uk/s [...] hp?t=49265 although im not sure if thats how you do it when you want to use the optical cable an get full dolby digtal 5.1 running through it? or do you just connect the optical cable into the sound card by itself..

cheers for your help so far

i just use the optical cable, plugs straight into my sound card. from the looks of it that should be the case for you aswell. It really is very simple, much more than you would expect.
As for 5.1, im not sure as I only use 2.1, however i dont see why the full 5.1 wouldn't work. dont quote me on that though

For anyone who wants to connect a console to a sound card to decode dolby and send surround 5.1 audio to analog speakers check out this chart:

http://www.soundblaster.com/x-filist/

Any X-Fi card listed with YES in the column on the right can be used for this purpose. So that you can have dolby sound in surround from a console even without a Hi-Fi receiver.
