Hi All,
I am going to build a new system for myself, but before I start to build I need your suggestion, its long time that I am far away from hardware news, so I need help from professionals here.
The system I want should be good for gaming and multimedia designing.
I want Intel cpu, nVidia graphic card, nforce chipset based motherboard(or something better if you know), 4gb ram(if its possible to have 4gb ram with windows xp),...
The price should be about 1000$.
Many Thnx

Since you want multimedia I'd Recommend a quad core. You can have 4GB of RAM with XP but your computer will only see like 3.2. ATI is the better value right now with the 4850 beating out the 9800GTX, the 4870 beating out the 260, and the 4870X2 being the general top dog, if you can afford it anyway. Also, it's better to get a good P45 motherboard so you can crossfire your Radeon Cards latter. I'm not to fond of the nVidia boards right now due to them being rather problematic.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz $329.99

And that's 727.59 so far leaving you with 272.41 for the case, hard drive, and optical drive.

Well I guess for the total build without monitor

And that's 995.54 Before any Rebates. I like the Raidmax Smilodon case, but I'm not fond of their power supplies so I don't think it's worth the extra $20 to get the one with the 500W PSU. The Antec 650W should be more than enough to add a second 4850 down the road. If you are not afraid to overclock then you might want to consider a Q6600 so you can put the difference toward a Radeon 4870 and a better PSU.

Thanks for your time and detailed reply :)
First of all, I want to have a raid setup for my hard drives, what do you suggest ?
Also about nvidia cards, you suggest i should not build my system with them, what about 9 series ?
about the ram, i dont need faster bus,800mhz is enough for this cpu ?
this motherborad is good ? i mean is there better choice or not ?
again thnx for your time...

You gave a budget of 1K, and I would say that build is as good as you will get. If you want another 2 hard drives for RAID then you'll be over budget.

The 4850 is the best performance vs. price. You can get less performance with an 8800GT, for less money. You can get about the same performance with a 9800GTX+, for a bit more money.

800Mhz RAM is more than fast enough. You only need 667Mhz RAM... but the 800Mhz is cheap and would allow for the possibility of an overclock at some point.

"this motherborad is good ? i mean is there better choice or not ?"
Do you really need to ask that? You think he gave you a bad reference? If you really didn't mean it when you said $1000.00, you shouldn't have said it. You can buy better motherboards, but again you will be over budget.

 yeah

Anyway the board supports RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 10 (also known as 1+0). The mail in rebates, assuming you act before they expire, should allow you to buy a second WD Hard Drive and stay in the budget. Raid 1 is simple mirroring while Raid 0 logically combines the disks and their capacity whcih also leads to an increase in speed. Of course the problem with RAID 0 is that you're doubling your probability of Hard Drive failure, since if one hard drive dies all the data is lost even if the other drive is perfectly good.

RAID 5 is the safest, but you will need 3 drives and you will only get the capacity of 2. If, for example, you got 3 500GB Hard Drives you would have 1000GB Hard Drive array since the 3rd Hard Drive would be used for parity. If the parity drive dies no biggy, as long as you replace it, and if any of the other two drives die their info is reconstructed with the parity drive.

I say, go with RAID 5, but it's gonna cost you more since you now have to buy 3 Hard Drives. RAID 1 is the safest, and if you go with RAID 0 you better back up your data at least once a week! If you want to go RAID 5 and still stay in budget then you're going to have to scale back on the CPU.

Thanks for the replies,
I asked for a better motherborad because i like to have a good one :)
anyway, i need to know if there is a better way than raid to gain performance on hard drives or still building a raid is best solution...
thnx

Dude, seriously, it like Proximon said. We aren't here to give you a bad board reference. If you want a better board you're going to have to spend more money and research them yourself. Just because a board costs more doesn't mean it's better.

I know, i didnt say that you gave me bad reference, i just wanted to see if there are other options and brands in same level...
