On my bios main screen the master and slave IDE drives are not detecting. I need to be able to boot from my cd-rom, so i can install windows. I have tried new cables and different cd-rom/dvd drives. This is an asus P5N-D motherboard.
Sounds silly but do you have the IDE channel enabled in the BIOS? There is usually an option to enable/disable it (I run all SATA drives and disable mine as it boots quicker) Check that there is no IDE Raid function enabled either.
Also check your master and slave jumpers on your devices. Master device goes a the end of the ribbon.
