Hi, I just put together a new computer and, luckly, it booted up right away. I set my ram timings and voltage in BIOS then saved and exited. Now I need to insert boot media. My question is: is this the time to install the OS or do I pop in the disk that came with the motherboard and install the drivers? I am using an ASUS P5K Pro. Seems like this should be an easier part, but I just don't know. Thanks for any help!
However, I would first run memtest86 from a boot CD. I alway verify that my memory is is good on a new build prior to installing the OS. Memory errors can, and do, cause problems when installing the OS.
Get your drivers from the manufacturers website if you can. Getting the old drivers from the cds that come with the components sometimes have issues that are fixed with the latest updates from the mfgrs websites.
