Hello!

I for a long time have been after a new LCD screen for watching blue ray, dvt and playing latest release computer games (UT3, COD4 and some RPgs). And now I finnaly have the budget for a good one I'm totally torn between these two!?

I don't know much at all about the specs of monitors or what they mean so I was really hoping this community could help!

Which would be your choice and why?

The Xerox has a glass panel over the screen which makes it look AMAZING. I have seen one and i'm VERY impressed. The glass makes it look very glossy and easy to polish and certainly seems to make what you're looking at very good looking and vibrant :D You know? So black doesn't look grey coz i have a light on somewhere in the room.

But altho the Acer doesn't have this glass panel on thier lcd monitor, and probably has a matt looking finish instead, it does have some more impressing specs.

Thanks very much for the help!!!

I do not see mention of HDCP on the Xerox. If it does not have it, then Blu Ray will not play without software to break the copy control on it.

While the Xerox looks great(50 000:1 contrast is a nice lie from Acer, its dynamic and IMO would be no better then 800:1 constant anyway), with games you may be better off with the slightly better repose times on the Acer.

Please note that some TN(both are TN) LCD's do not produce great colors or dark colors well and I would recommend visiting a local store to see the screens in person. There are non TN screens but they are great for color, but not always as good for games. If games is your primary use, TN is the way to go.

Thanks for the help.

I'm glad you mentioned the 50000:1 contrast from acer being a little optimistic. I hunted down a place where i could look at these and I have to say the Xerox look very nice with it's glossy finish. Certainly aids it's own contrast :)

The xerox does have a hdmi port thankfully.

**And I'm told that so long as I set the resolution on my pc no higher than 1080 wide then it will run in 'progressive' rather than 'interlaced'. Can anyone confirm this????**

I'm also curious if anyone knows about response times and if it's worth aiming for something lower than 5ms?

I would be using this for gaming, yes, potentially SLI graphics (does this effect 1080p/1080i??) so is a lower response time than 5 actually significant?

For playing games, the Acer would probably be better (2ms vs 5 actually makes a difference), 50000:1 is dynamic, but it will still probably look better than 800:1. As for the resolution, both of the aspect ratios on these are 16:10, so their navitve res is 1920х1200. Ifyou run them in 1900X1080 i assume that they will stretch the image. I would recomend getting a 16X9 screen, blue ray and dvds run at 16x9 so they will distort or not fill the screen on a 16x10 monitor. As for sli, any semi recent cards can go up to 2500X1900 (and every thing in between) so no problems there

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236049 here is a 24 inch 16X9 2ms screen for $300 (£240) . I dont think newegg ships to Europe though :(

Lol well xerox doesn't ship to europe either but you just gotta know people...

can you tell me how 2ms makes a difference?

If you're going to say 'ghosting'; it was my understanding that that is caused by interlaced display.

Also I can easily crop anything I play into 16:10 or what ever so i'm not too worried there.

Also i was told the intelacing only becomes a problem when you run a resolution greater than the monitor so the xerox will still be able to display in progressive, no?

I'm still doubfull of that 50000:1 contrast ratio as well. I was reading there there is no industry standard for testing this yet and some, such as samsung, have been caught out damn right lieing though thier teeth!
