Q6600 or e8500 (Newbie)

Ok, I'm not really a newbie but it's been 4 years since I built a computer and I got out of the loop with things. I want to get back into gaming, like COD and Far Cry. I realized that the Intels are the best thing going now and it looks like I'm going to either get a Q6600 or a E8500. I always had AMD's, and my current CPU is a AMD Athlon 64 3200+. So it's been awhile since I did CPU shopping. Can somebody explain it more simple terms which one would be better for somebody who wants to play some games again? Besides games, my computer is only used for web browsing. Would the Q6600 be better for the long term?

e8500 if keeping at stock speeds will be better for gaming, however if you're willing to OC then a q6600 will be able to keep up with most games.
