my HD 4870 512mb gddr5 card is slower in games than my 8800GTS 320mb. I have an nvidia chipset mobo and it has 1.2GB shared graphics memory with the 8800GTS, but with the ATI card it has only 512 dedicated and no shared. because of this my 8800GTS out performs the hd 4870 in games like crysis. my GTS runs crysis on high with 40 fps. the 4870 runs on high at 23 fps. and its clocked faster than my GTS. Whats wrong here?

crysis likes nvidia cards.

maybe get new drivers for the card.

There is no way that is correct. The 4870 should mop the floor with the GTS 320. Also, I can't see you getting those frames on Crysis with the 320, unless it is a very low resolution. Maybe you are mistaken, and have a GTS 512?

its a xfx geforce 8800gts 320mb. runnin at 600MHZ core and 1000 MHz memory. The visiontek 4870 is runnin at 750MHZ core and 1100 MHz memory. It runs crysis smooth at about 40fps on high. Resolution is at 1280 x 800. same thing for the 4870 but the fps were dragging BAD. I had catalyst 8.8 drivers. Im thinkin about gettin either a 9800GTX2 or should i get a GTX 280?

PS: the fan on the 4870 SUCKS!!! at 40% its louder than my 8800GTS at 100%. I can barley here my GTS

Did you clear out the Nvidia drivers before installing the 4870?

What is your CPU? this is the most common problem with crysis. Slow CPU leads to very bad in fps.

That can't be right... My best friend has the 8800GTS 320 and I have a 4870. He cannot run all high setting on crysis no matter what resolution even with a overclocked dual core. I however can run everything on very high @ 1680x1050 with fps in the high 20's-mid30's....something is wrong with your setup.

i have a hp media center computer
AMD athlon 64 X2 2.8GHz
3GB memory
500GB HD
8800GTS
Creative Sound Blaster X-FI
500 Watt PSU

Oh and i found out why my fps were so good, i was running in DX9 mode, switched it to DX10 and now its running normal(slower like yall were saying it should be). Hey what about the 4870 running at 1100 MHZ memory when its advertised for 1800MHz. I dont know, I dont care, im with nvidia all the way, and cant wait to buy a new desktop with an intel processor. Anyone wanna buy a 4870 that lives in florida??

1100MHz measured how? Also, keep in mind that the reference clock on the 4870's memory (as measured by many utilities) is 1/4 the data rate, not 1/2 as it is on non DDR5 cards. So, if it is saying 1100, it might actually be 4400MHz. What does GPU-Z say?

Why would you sell a perfectly good 4870 - it's faster than any Nvidia available but the GTX 280.

there aint no way thats correct, if a memory clock was 4400MHZ on that card, that card would fry. The box says its only 1800MHz max anyway, how can it be 4400MHz?? ATI Catylist says 1100MHz on memory and 750MHz on core. Look at benchmarks, there arent any benchmarks that show a 4870 outperforming a GTX 280

AMD athlon 64 X2 2.8GHz? i think that has something to do with it
