I have recently purchased Asus P5N73-AM. It has 8 channel via audio. I have Intex 5.1 ch home theatre speakers. when i connect all speakers and test the speakers in Via hd audio control panel all speakers works well but when i play it in windows (media players or games). Only two speakers works. I have selected 6 Ch in control panel.

It is normal (in my case) for not surround application to only use 2 of front speakers, neither the middle front nor the back ones, but when i use a surround sound 5.1 or more application either in a game depending on the location of sound itself the respective speaker sounds like when i am playing a game and someone is speaking freely only the two of front sounds if i directly speak to him the middle front speaker it is the one to sound and if something on my back makes sounds only the back speakers sounds, ive got a integrated sound, maybe if you get a dedicated sound card you can fix this by drivers and telling it to make sound all of your speakers... i am not really sure if that would work..... but in my case and my friends case thats what happens what ive described above.... sorry if i am not of the help but thats what happens :P

It sounds to me, that you don't understand the point of surround sound. All of the speakers are not supposed to produce the same sound at the same time... that is why there are seperate channels! Under normal conditions the majority of your sound comes from the front left, right, and center channels. Then when something happens behind you in a game, the rear speakers come to life. So your speakers are working fine if you have selected 6 channel.

I have the same Motherboard and it has spectacular sound. I use the SPDIF/ digital out for 5.1 on my digital receiver and take output from the headphone jack output on the front for my side left and side right, thus making a full 7.1 system. This totally blows the Creative labs sound blaster audigy2 away that I had before... granted it was only 5.1... I do love this Asus Board I give it a 8 out of 10.... just wish it had more pci slots... and 2 pcie16's, but hey when I upgrade to I7 Ill get what I want!!! Good luck,
Phil
