I recently Built a new system and all went well...
Everything was running fine until i began getting random shutdowns
the sytem would shut down and then not restart again unless left alone for a couple of hours.
So i went through the motions and narrowed the problem down to a fault with power switch either on the mobo or the case. I have the Haf 932 case and Gigabyte ex58 ud5 mobo.
When the power switch from the case is not connected to the mobo i get no random shutdowns at all. I opened the case but all the connections are Glued in place. I thought maybe the guys from Coolermaster may have mixed up the jumpers on the case putting the positive where the negative should be and vice versa.
So i have switched the jumpers around on the motherboard and it starts and shuts down fine using the power switch but im just waiting to see if i get the random shut downs.
Am i risking damagin the mobo swapping these wires around? can you guys think of any other reason why id be getting these shut downs?
By shutdown do you mean the pc switches itself off instantly like a power cut? or is it similar to when you press and hold the power button (ie like a normal shut down)?
Im pretty sure the power switch itself would have nothing to do with it.
An instantaneous shut down would suggest a hardware problem, such as faulty PSU.
A "normal" shut down (like press and hold power button) could be a virus, do you have any anti-virus software? I remember a virus that used to cause PC's to turn off after 60 seconds.
Not a power cut just a normal shut down says windows is now closing then goes off but then it wont switch on for a while motherboard lights up but then powers down instantly. then when i come back to it after a couple of hours it works for a little while again. However when i remove the Power Switch from the mobo it works flawlessly very strange..
I thought it was an over heating issue at 1st but i have checked it out and the tempretures are all minimal.
Definetly not a virus using Nod32 x64 latest definition plus system was just formatted.
