I tried to install a 6800GS card in my new computer, but it extends over the SATA ports 1 & 2 used for the HD and DVD. The card measures 8.5 inches. I tried to move the SATA cables to ports 3 & 4, but the computer could not see the drives.
It looks like a max card length of 8 inch would work. The SATA port is 2 inches from the end of the PCIe connector.
If it was not for the cables in SATA ports 1 & 2, a 9 or 10 inch card would fit easily. I would like to get a 9800 GT.
Are there any new cards that are less that 8 inch in length?
i have the same problem...none of the new cards fit in my system, but anythin below 8600 gts fits those are smaller than 9 inches so u shouldnt have a problem with those
This HD 4850 in particular has a custom PCB by sapphire, it's shorter than the reference model. I haven't measured it yet, but I do remember reading it was around 8 inches on a firingsquad review.
