Should it take 4 days to install windows xp on to my computer?

ok bought a new hard drive for my lap top trying to install windows xp sp2 ithas bene 4 days it is supposed to be on the part but why has it took so long?

Should only take a few hours, at most. Either your optical drive is bad, your hard-drive is bad, or you are installing in on a PII system with 32MB or RAM.

running 512 mb ram kinda what i was thinking the hard drive is no good supposed to be running 4200 rpm think it is not running that fast it did finally load windows xp sp2 but is running so slow now what is a optical drive?

optical drive = DVD/CD/Blu-ray, as opposed to a magnetic drive like a hard drive/tape.

512mb and a 4200 rpm drive (which is normal for laptop drives) is not horrible for XP, setup should have not even been close to a day without some really bad things happening. Get a disk check utility from the drive vendor, run it, see what happens.

If you are doing a full format then most likely your computer is trying to fix a ton of errors on you HDD. Ditto to Ht9's HDD utility. If you cant find one easily just use Hitchi DFT(Drive Fitness Tester), just google it.
