I was looking around looking at buying a AKIMBO cooler, and getting another 8800GT AKIMBO, but over the weeks I've been browsing the 8800GT's have been slipping away. The AKIMBO model is only available on Amazon.com, Newegg does not have it, and Tiger is slighly overpriced compared to Newegg's former price. Is the 8800GT being sold out in favor of the 9800GT? Or is it simply a low stock that will be replenished. I am wondering if it will be any easier or harder to get one after a month or so?
My problem is I'm not in favor of selling my 8800GT to get a 9800GT to replace it because I can't SLI and 8800 and 9800GT because they're different because the 9800GT can 3X SLI
Even though the two cards are the same, as far as clocks and number of processing and rendering units, I guess the simple fact they are named differently is an obsticle. I guess you should get an 8800GT while you can like this one
megamanx00 look at this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814133242 no difference i believe it should work with the 8800gt. all nvidia did is rename it 9800gt. same core, shaders, mem bit, texture, rop and clocks see no difference.

Hah, the 8800GT is $5 cheaper but ends up costing 3.97 more with shipping. Anyway that's true, they originally were just renamed 8800GTs. There are reports that there are 55nm 9800GTs now, but that doesn't really make too much of a difference. Anyway while I agree that you SHOULD be able to SLi an 8800GT and a 9800GT, it all depends if it's allowed by the drivers.
