I have an Intel q6600 planing to remove it. I implemented thermal cooling compound ontop of the CPU. i will be putting it for storage until the new mobo comes in. how and whats the best way of removing the compound off?

Ive always just used a tissue myself :S

Although after lapping mine i used a metal cleaning/polish i had laying around... probably not the best to use but all i had

rubbing alcohol 91%. works like magic, ive used it several times. just make sure you don't drop any in the socket/on the MOBO since im sure it cant be good....

+1 on the rubbing alcohol, and a residue free cloth. Toilet paper and cheap paper towels leave behind the "fuzz".

I use cloth baby diapers for the job, each is good for thirty or so cleanings.

Do not forget to clean the cooler base or the waterblock too.
