But this link off HPs website http://www.shopping.hp.com/can/com [...] ccessories is suggesting ddr2 memory for my labtop. (The memory finder, and then pavilion dv1000...)

What really happens if you put ddr2 memory in a ddr slot? They're both 200 pin, you can match up voltage and latency, etc. I know everyone says it doesn't work. I was just wondering... When I open my labtop, it has ddr pc2700 memory in there now...

It won't work. Different memory controllers, different voltages, everything is incompatible.

Some desktop boards support both, but not at the same time, and they will have seperate sockets

It wont even plug in... Kinda like square hole square peg, but the peg is an inch wider than the hole :P
