Here's the deal...I ordered a new rig...but now I'm thinking I acted too hastily...even though I spent 2 months researching it.
I currently have an Asus A8Js laptop with the following specs:
2.0ghz t7200
4gb mushkin dual channel ram (only 3gb recognized)
geforce 7700 512mb
7200 hitachi drive

It's pretty decent for laptop standards...and runs pretty much every game, just not at the best quality. I don't really play a whole lot of new games, mainly DOTA+CS:S atm...I ordered the following:
e8400
palit sonic 4870
8gb mushkin ddr800 ram
etc...cost me roughly 1100 cad tax in...cheap, but with i7 coming out soontime, should i just suck it up and stick with my laptop for now.
the only game i really wanna try right now is crysis 1/2, and maybe warhammer online...i'm going to get a new comp for sure, but i really only want it for diablo3+sc2...that's not due out for atleast a year and a bit, but these damn prices looks so darn good to me. i still have time to cancel my purchase if i call in tomorrow as it hasn't shipped yet...if i were to cancel, i would prob spend 1.5k+ on a i7 when d3/sc2 hits.
what would you do!?

From what I'm hearing, prices for chips and boards for the new intel stuff is going to be expensive, at like say more than 200 bucks for a new chip and maybe more than 200 for a new board. So honestly, I say go ahead and grab yourself some nice stuff now, and wait until that price comes down, then go for the newer socket.

but that would be pointless...as i would be paying double the price if u think about it getting a new cpu/mobo/ram after prices drop, and using the old parts as a fancy paperweight. lol
hmmm...
