Windows Exporer name not NTFS name

In Explorer the thing displays as "Empty_WasPictures_Empty".

see the top, the name is
C:\Documents and Settings\US\My Documents\My Pictures

"Empty_WasPictures_Empty" properties :o

This is basic NTFS stuff I never new. WTF is it?

Where is it documented? What is it called?

Why the %^^& can't I change "Empty_WasPictures_Empty" to "My Pictures"

Its an alias, or a synonym or symbolic link or something, but I just want to make them the same and alas I want to understand.
