At work there is a printer and two PC's. They connect to the printer via parallel cables and a parallel auto switch.

There was some construction done and one of the parallel cables went missing. We tried two brand new parallel cables and neither of them worked.

I have tested both ports on the auto switch. It works fine. The original cable works when connected to either PC.

The new cables do not work any way i try.

Am I missing something? The only thing i can think of is that this cable is about half as thick as the old cables. Can signal quality/power issues on the parallel cable be a problem?

Thanks for your time in advance.

*********Update********

I'm thinking it may have something to do with the fact that the cable we bought was a "Laplink" cable? These appear to be different than regular cables. For connecting computer to computer. I'm guessing they have different interal wiring. Can someone confirm that this is the likely cause? If so what the hell is a non laplink cable called lol.
