i have 2 business computers that run access and a bit of web surfing/email checking. after an office remodel, one of the computers will not boot up anymore. after having it checked out, it is the mobo or proc. it is a socket 775 mobo with a celeron 2.9 in it with 512mb ddr ram(seems strange to not have ddr2 ram). how should i go about upgrading/fixing this computer? i am capable of repairing it myself. will i have to reinstall the OS on the HD after a new mobo and or proc or what?

grab a new mobo like

a new cpu and some new ram

you wont necessarily have to do a new install although it might be easier, you will have to update all the drivers

thankyou for the reply. what is the likelyhood of it just being the cpu and just being able to slap in a new dual core celeron in it? how can i check if it is the cpu or the mobo?

well in my experience it generally isn't the cpu that goes bad, if you have another motherboard laying around you could try that

i pulled the processor and it looks fine....though the fan was covered in a caked on dust pile. will the proc or the mobo have any burn marks on them if they fail?

Reply to hemir1

they would if something went REALLY bad but not generally
