Sata hard drives and DVD Writers

I recently started rebuilding a home built system. The motherboard I have only has 4 sata ports. I have a PCI card with an additional 4 sata ports. The 4 ports on the motherboard have 3 hard drives and a DVD writer attached. I just ordered another SATA DVD writer. My question is should I attach the new SATA DVD writer to the PCI SATA card or should I take off one of the hard drives from the motherboard SATA port and plug that into the card and use the motherboard SATA port for the other DVD writer?
