I play both of these games on high (no AA) DX10 at 1280*1024 resolution, but the performance is either very good or sluggish. I'll be playing one level and it'll be producing acceptably smooth game play, but I'll load the next level and it can be almost unplayable. Crysis is patched, but I don't believe warhead has any patches available yet.

Is this my system? or does Crysis produce unsteady FPS?

My specs:
Windows Vista 64Bit, Q6600@3Ghz, 4GB Ram, Nvidia 9800GT (latest driver)

Hi,

I had a very similar problem to you also. I run those games at the same image quality (I run at 1920 x 1200 though) and some parts just became completely unplayable. I found that I got a significant boost in performance by running the game in Direct X 9 mode (NB: not by running high in dx 10 mode, but forcing the game to run under dx 9) this made the game completely playable (as playable as crysis gets though lol)

My system is
Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit, e4300 @ 3.0Ghz, 4GB ram, Nvidia 8800GTS 512( this system is very close to yours)

To get it to force dx9, go to the installed directory, in there there should be folder called bin32

In that floder run the batch file "Crysis_Play_DirectX9"

See how you go with that.

You can also in Vista just go to Games and then find your link to Crysis there and right click on in and select to start it in DX 9 mode.

But Cyrsis also is more demanding on your system in different levels, water sceens will slow it down depending on you water texture settings in the options for the game.
