Hello all,

I have to choose between 3 second hand cards which I consider buying. I get get all three of them for almost the same price.

Which would be the best choice of the three?

--XFX 8800 GTX 768mb DDR3
--XFX Geforce 8800GTS Alpha Dog Edition, 640MB DDR3, 320-Bit (Dual DVI, TV out) SLI Ready PCI Express 16x
--XFX Geforce 9800GTX XXX Edition - 512GB DDR3, 256-Bit (Dual DVI,HDMI, SLI Ready) PCI Express 2.0 +Game: Company of Heroes

Thank you for the help,

Regards

Price for performance, the 9800X2 at $270 is one of the best deals on the market right now.

From that list, the 8800GTS is an old style GTS, not a G92 so that alpha dog edition is going to dog behind the others. the 640mb 8800GTS's were very poor cards.

The 8800GTX is a very solid card, but the 9800GTX is also a fine card and both of them will do very well for gaming.

The 8800GTX will do better in higher resolutions with AA than the 9800GTX, but your talking about the difference between only a 3-6 FPS.

If you have $270 to spare, get a 9800X2 and it blows all of those cards out of the water, but if your set on one of those 3 cards, I would say the 8800GTX.

Welcome to the fourms!

Of the 3 cards you list, I would chose the 9800GTX.
It will be a little faster than the 8800GTX and can probably overclock further.

The 8800GTS 640 is not a bad card however it is the slowest of the three.
It generally performs between a 9600GT and a 8800GT.

Depending on your budget and how cheap these second hand cards are, I would suggest looking into a new 4850.
It will outperform the 9800GTX by about 15% and can be found for as low as $135 on newegg.

9800gx2 is $279.99 without rebates, or $219.99 if you don't mind the large mail in rebate(usually takes a month or more for them to send the money).

Thank you for the replies!

I am still confused which one to take though.
Obviously my choice is narrowed to the 9800GTX xxx and the 8800GTX.

From the links, it seems like the 9800 performs better. But the 8800 has more memory for larger res.

I'm thinking I should go with the 9800? Not sure at all still!

Well the question becomes: "What resolution do you plan on playing in?"

Anything over 1680x1059 and your probably going to want that extra memory, 1680X1050 or lower, the 9800 is going to be the better choice.

But still, the cards are very close in performance, so you really can't make a wrong choice.
