Hello all.

I am in the final stages of selecting parts for my new pc (first build). I'm looking in particular at the options for my video card. I currently own this card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127333

& like it. I am trying to decide if I want to use this in SLI on my new build, or upgrade to another card. Something like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130388

I'm aware that card shows as deactivated, but I can find it via alternate vendor. I was just curious as to which you would all feel would be the best performing option.

Thank You!

9800gt is just renamed 8800gt. Dual 9600gt will far outperform it.

Here are some benchmarks that include 9600gt sli and other cards.

9800gx2, at $280, or $220 after mir, is a good deal.

Either get it or stick with a second 9600gt. Other choices either perform below dual 9600gt or cost too much more.

What are the other parts?

What resoloution will you be using?

I am not, and have never been, a fan of multi-card configurations so take this next bit on advisement.
I would not suggest combinging two mid-range cards (9600 GT) in SLI.
Not every game supports SLI and those that do do not always use those cards at their best. For consistant performance, I`d suggest the 9800 although I guess two 9600`s in SLI will beat it in games that use them to their full extent.

Yeah, I'd say 9600gt SLI is the way to go there, definitely better than 9800gt. You would need to spend over $200 on a card to get better performance and you can get a 9600gt for $85(no shipping or rebate) on newegg or $70 after rebate.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

coozie7 I'd probably be looking at a 790i mobo, e8500 8 gig crucial ballistix memory as a base config. 2 Seagate 640gb 32mb cache.

^^Nice rig!
Having read the benchmarks for dual 9600 GT cards, I`m inclined to agree with the other posters, despite my dislike of multi-card configurations. Dual 9600 GT seems to be the way to go for you!

What are you using the computer 4?

If you have that much money to sling around (8 gig of memory!) then why not just buy a 3870x2 or 4870x2. Drop 4 gig of ram and buy a better graphics card as you are never going to be needing 8 gig for games.

4870x2 ($530) cost far more than a single 9600gt (since OP already have one). 3870x2 does not outperform 9600gt sli, while costing $220. A 9800gx2, at $220-280, might offer enough performance increase over dual 9600gt while costing low enough to be a viable alternative, and that's a big might.
