What program do I use to open my passport essential

I'm trying to back up the files on my computer to my passport essential and when it comes up it says, "Choose the program you want to use to open this file." Then it gives me a list to choose from. I dont remember this step the last time I backed up my files.

Choose "View files". It's an autostart feature. You can cancel out of it and access the drive normally.

I did that but then it asks. "What file/program do you want to use to open this?"

I had to call the company and the support tech said I had to manually move files from my computer over to the passport program. A little icon for this appeared when I clicked on my Start button and then clicked on My computer, but now I don't see it. Anyway, he had me drag over what I wanted backed up and put them in manually.

I know that I didn't have to do this for two backups I didn't after getting this and I'm not sure this was the correct answer. It seems once you plug you My Passport into the CPU it should do a backup of your hard drive. Am I missing something?
