I'm looking for a 19" LCD with a native resolution of 1280x1024. It will be used for both graphic design and FPS gaming. I'm under the impression that there is a hierarchy for LCD panels. TN Film, MVA, PVA and IPS. I am concerned with color quality while at the same time I would like to avoid ghosting.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

It depends what your budget is and personal preference, I like samsungs and HP, here are a couple u could think about

this would be my personal choice, i have the 22" version and i have had no problem yet, I also think it wins hands down in style.

or you could go 4 this cheaper samsung

good price

another good monitor

I thinks that you will pay more for a samsumg monitor, however i have always used samsung and have had no probs. (you get what you pay 4)

Its not that much to step up 2 a larger monitor and i feel it will be benifical. i also do graphics and my 22" is perfect, 20" would be just as good

i should aso ask what gpu u have

Thanks for the reply. However I'm really only looking for 19" LCDs that have a native res. of 1280x1024. I'm not willing to pay over $350.

I looked at that one and would definitely consider it if it wasn't for the 25ms response time. It just wouldn't suffice in FPS games. I'm searching for that perfect balance between color quality and performance. Is there such a monitor?

The reason I want a 19" 1280x1024 LCD is because everything on the screen will be large(r) as opposed to a 17" LCD of the same native res. I might be convinced to get a WS monitor if I can avoid the awkward resolution of 1440x900 and everything on screen is relatively large like a 19" LCD @ 1280x1024. However, on say a 20 or 21" LCD, the res. being 1680x1050 will leave me in the same dilemma as I am in now. Text too small - squinting ensues.

The reason you are not getting any good leads is because you are asking for 19 inchers. Recent articles like this compare 24" units, the more coveted units on the market cuurrently. I would find the baby brothers to these units. Like the Dell 2408:

Here is the Gateway in the cpmparison.

The Samsung:

I almost bought the Dell 2408 at the Dell oulet store recently. 90 warranty turn me away. I probably should have picked up the 2408 here for $419! Go shopping!

Last one on the bottom. Now it's $489. Was $419.

My whole pursuit with choosing the LCD is because I want everything on the screen to be larger for my weak eyes. A nineteen inch screen with 1280 by 1024 pixels will be comfortably scaled so that reading small print won't produce the eye fatigue I'm experiencing.

I figured if I could get good color quality and performance at the same time, why not try? That's why I was including those stipulations. Though above all I want something easy on my eyes. A year or two ago, 19 inches was the sweet spot LCD vendors were working with. Today it seems it's 24 inches. And I suspect it's only going to rise. However my eyesight is not going to improve, regardless of how the technology advances. So I am left with my dilemma of finding a flat panel that will display a relatively low resolution on a relatively large screen.

Ask your opthalomogist to prescribe a pair of glasses you could use specifically for viewing a computer screen. The prescription would be considerablly weaker than your normal one and cause less strain.

HP LP1965 Black-Silver 19" 6ms(GTG) LCD Monitor

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824176072

S-MVA panel which does truly reproduce 16.7m colors and 6ms response time should be good enough to play games.

If you want faster response times then you will need to settle on a TN panel.

If you are willing to pay $350 before shipping, taxes and after a $30 mail-in rebate (expires 10/31/08) then consider the HP LP2275w Black 22" 6ms(GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor. It uses a S-PVA panel which can truly reproduce 16.7m colors. This is one of just a handful of 22" LCD monitors using a S-PVA panel. If you are not sure text will be large enough for comfortable reading, then simply go to your local computer store and check out any 22" LCD monitor on display.
