Im having some trouble with a new graphics card i purchased. I bought a XFX 8600gt Geforce nvidia card. I am replacing a Nvidia 6800 geforce.

My system specs are:
Dell XPS Gen4 3.2 ghz
2gb ram
17"monitor
PCI-E x16 slot for the card (black colored)

My problem is when i uninstall my current card which is the nvidia 6800 and put in my new xfx card, and start up the computer nothing comes on the screen. The monitor is just black, but the computer is on. I cannot understand the type of problem i am having, whether it is a compatibility problem or anything. Any information or answers would be greatly appreciated thanks

This may sound stupid but are you plugging in the monitor to the new graphics card?

If yes then simply remove it and try running through onboard graphics, if they work then something is wrong with your graphics card and you should get it replaced.

What im doing is i plugged my monitor into the new card, the xfx, and when i startup the computer, there is nothing on the screen, i dont think i can plug the monitor anywhere else without a display card, there isnt a onboard plug for it.

why did you uninstall drivers ? you could just use your new one with the old drivers! just put back that 6800GT, download the drivers back so that 6800 works just fine, and than shut down pc, put out old one, put in new gpu and normaly you would be done! so tell me later, that it's a big diffrence in fps!

I know its a very big difference in fps, i thought it was time to upgrade, but i think i may have found why my computer screen is not turning on, the xfx box says its for screen sizes 19"-30" and mine is 17", would that be the reason, if so i know what i must do then...

lol , it would be strange that it can't support lower resolutions than 1440x... (19 inch widescreen resolution) i run a 8600GT it runs on a 17 inch screen with 1280x1024 res. i don't think your gpu can't handle 17 inch. there are tft screens that are 19 inch and have a max res of 1280. so that couldn't be the problem!

no my previous card was not broken im still using it, but there arent any cables that i connect to the card just plug it in, but i feel it is some conflict between the monitor and the card its just not showing anything on screen
