Just got a new proc, Intel q6700. Haven't been following the hardware scene for about 4 years so was wondering what someone might recommend for a good high-end motherboard. Need IDE, sata/sata2 and PCIe

ermm IDEs dieing by the way but you still get one main connecter. I know on my top end X48 I only have 1 IDE without the floopy one.

what is your "top end" ? and budget and do you want to go SLI/CROSSFIRE?

Hey, thank you very much for responding to me :) New to Tom's forum so it's much appreciated.

budget right now is up in the air. It's a birthday present so I can go anywhere with it but don't want to be rude you know :) SLI/Crossfire isn't a big concern for me as I like sticking with a single high end vs 2 midrange or better. Seems to cause less problems. I also did a little more research and it seems that the p45 chipset has had a lot more work put into it then the x* chipsets so I was looking at the gigabyte ep45-ud3p mainboard.

Any comments on that?

In all reality here I used to be a big DFI fan simply because it offers a lot of tweaking ability for people who like to tinker a lot. Unfortunately that's not really true with me anymore as I just don't have the time. Right now I'm looking for some OCing ability with proc and mem but moreover durability and reliability. If I find a board with minimal issues and a long life vs one that has more specific tweaking features but is quirky, I will probably opt for the former.
