AMCC 3ware 9650SE SATA RAID Controller; 3 drives RAID 5: each are WDC WD1001FALS-00E8B0
this unit is configured as a data non-booting drive with 2 partitions.

XP PRO x86 SP3

Copied 3 GB files (C:\Program Files) from C to the RAID volume. (C is an Intel SSD M80 G2)


  • speed with Write Cache enabled: 24.57 MB/s
  • speed with Write Cache disabled: 4.24 MB/s


Does the far slower writes (factor of 6) when Write Cache is disabled indicate that the alignment is wrong in this set?

How do you force optimal alignment in XP PRO x86 on this RAID?
