I7 920 3.33Ghz thermal status

Hi everyone, I have just overclocked my i7 920 to 3.33ghz and want your opinion about the temperature and the voltage.

because it's my first time to overclock, I want to make sure that everything is ok because this pc is 2 days old.

I'm using Noctua NH-C12P SE14 Air cooler.
i7 920
6 GB ddr3 kingston Hyperx 1600mhz
asus P6T mobo
supphire hd 5870 gpu
windows 7 home premium 64bit

(1) is the 10 minutes test enough to confirme the temp won't go higher later when running applications for longer time?

(2) is the voltage okay ? and can I turn the turbov, or keeping it disabled is better?

(3) the pc looks good, And no crashes or delay, do I have to run stability test for 8 hours or I don't have to? because honestly I don't want to perform that test it just takes a lot of time.

lol 10 mins, I had an overclock fail after 7 hours of stress testing with OCCT. 8 Hours should be a minimum if you want to be sure its stable.

Also you have a D0 920 and your using way to much voltage, it will most llikely be stable at 1.12xxxVcore. What are you using to test stability?

The temps and voltage look fine. You'll want to check stability for several hours though before using it too much.

I'm using prime95.

I'm running a blend torture test at the moment, will head to sleep and keep it on. and after 8 hours will check it out and let you know about the result.

currently the max cpu temp is 70 C.

Yeah seems good so far, but i bet you could get that voltagte down a few notches.

Also I dnt let mine exceed 73C, but as you say 70C is max all is good : ) (although some people run theres hotter)

about the temperature, I turned the AC on coz it's hot a lil bit in Adelaide, and the max temp is 64 at the moment can't go higher

Sounds fine so far then. My personal comfort limit on the i7s is around 75C, but some people run them even hotter. It sounds like you're even below that, so I wouldn't worry too much about messing with it any more (unless it fails Prime at some point). Of course, if you do want to mess with it a bit more, you could probably get it even faster

I'm not sure how much disabling this feature will affect on the cpu temp @@

Result: the blend prime95 test passed successfully with no errors, I didn't believe it lol
So I installed the OCCT software and run it for 1 hour. and the result still the same.

I'm happy at the moment, I will raise the BLK maybe next month haha

Those are pretty good results.

Stepstep could help in lowering temperatures when your computer is not doing much, but it could turn an unstable overclock into a very unstable system.

After being satisfied with your Prime/OCCT results you can turn Speedstep on again if you like.

I run OCCT for 1 hour and here is the result:

passed without errors.


Also I ran blend test on Prime95 for more than 9 hours, no errors so far,,,,

Without disabling any BIOS settings, we got my son's BCLK to 177.4 which x 21 gets 3.7 Ghz at a voltage of 1.125 Turning off HT got us to 4.2 .... turning it back on and making some other settings, got us to 4.4 He uses the 3.7 Ghz setting for everyday use, the 4.2 sometimes when he games.

~10 hours of Prime should be enough to call it pretty stable, so yes, I would consider that good enough for almost any use.
