I have a question pertaining to p35 crossfire performance.....before i begin, please do not point me to the cf/sli faq thats stickied.
I currently have:
E6550@2.8 ghz
4 gig pc 6400 hyperx
>>>ASUS p5ke-wifi<<<<<
bfg 8800 gts 512
My plans are to sell the 512, and pick up 2 4850s. I wish to see significant performance increase over running a single 8800 gts 512. This motherboard is a mobo i bought last year, and i am an idiot for purchasing it...so needless to say, its temporary. (its 16x and 4x slots concern me). I will be upgrading to a ddr 3 x48 in the next year, so emphasis on this being temporary. I am wondering if running these 2 cards on THIS board even with one of the slots being 4x will put me at a higher performance point or a lower performance point than my current card. I want more power than i have currently and so i wanted to achieve a temporary way of doing that...
One other question i might ask: should i instead just purchase another 8800 gts 512 and get an sli board...the reason i didnt want to do this was that i do not want to buy a board thats not ddr 3 if im going to upgrade; but doing another card, board, and ram will cost me too much at this current time....please provide all the feedback you can...thanks
well for starters 1 4850 will out preform your 8800gts the 4850 hangs with 9800GTX+ so no worries there...
your current motherboard will limit your second card there is no doubt about that in fact P45 board fall short of X48s. however, if you are going to upgrade in soon to a X48 then you really have nothing to worry about.
so all in all i would say go for it because once you get the X48 in there. the 2 4850s will out preform a GTX 280

AMD/ATI announced the 4850 X2 back in August along with the 4870 x2 (which apparently got more attention). The 4850 X2 may be late to the game, but ATI is pushing for it's release. On the plus side, ATI is also pushing for 2GB (1 GB per GPU) instead of only 1GB as originally announced.
I would guess the card may be out by mid November. Therefore, if you can wait for it, you can potentially keep your current mobo and save some $$$.
