Hey everyone, I was hoping somebody could help me with a problem I'm having with my build. I recently upgraded to a 9800GX2, and ever since then my system has been freezing. I talked on the phone with eVGA and PC Power and Cooling, and both recommended I increase my power supply. I picked up a 750 watt silencer (PC Power and Cooling) and installed it after removing my old PSU (610W silencer). Now, with everything connected, when I press the power button nothing happens!

I made sure that the power cable from the case chassis is still connected to the motherboard, and the connections to the GPU (both connections), ATX, ATX 12V, and optical/hard drives are all intact. Does the fact that absolutely nothing happens when I press the power button mean either the PSU or motherboard is at fault? It's hard to believe it's the PSU, since it's a brand new piece. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Stupid question but did you check for a main power switch on the back of the PSU is set to ON?

Also make sure you didn't accidently pull the power switch connector from the mobo.

If you reinstall the old psu and still nothing happens then I would say it's a dead mobo. try installing with old gpu if you can for testing purposes.

Take your old psu and connect it from outside the case. If it powers up then it will point more tothe power supply.

It would be strange for it to be a bad psu from that brand but all companies have a few bad eggs once in a while.

This is why I love having a psu tester with a voltage readout.

I tried connecting my old PSU from outside the case, and it still doesn't work. Nothing happens at all when I press the power button. The main switch is on in the back and the power switch connector from the case is definitely connected to the mobo.

At this point, does the fact that nothing happens mean it's the mobo or could it still be a peripheral device?

Did you clear the cmos on the motherboard? Sometimes they don't like when the cmos has not been cleared. Different boards can be quite picky.

I just cleared the CMOS by both taking out the battery and using the jumper, but again when I press the power button absolutely nothing happens. Any other thoughts on why this could be happening?
