Hello,
I am fairly new to the upgrade/modify PC world and would appreciate any help.
I own a 3Y old Compaq Presario SR2050NX with this mobo:

ECS RC410-M
Intel Pentium D 820 / 2.8 GHz
Multi-Core processor technology Dual-Core

Single-channel memory architecture PC2-4200
2 x 240-pin DIMM sockets support unbuffered non-ECC 400/533 MHZ DDR2 memory modules

I wanted to upgrade the memory and bought:
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel

Unfortunately the PC starts beeping with new RAM. Is Dual Channel RAM compatible with Single Channel DIMM?

Thanks for the help

Certainly not, but if the original modules don't have one, then the motherboard might not even read the SPD on the new modules. In that case, only those modules that meet the specs will work. Unfortunately not all motherboards designed for 400/533 Mhz memory will accept 800 Mhz memory without issues. That's particularly true on a system like that Compaq where the voltage and probably the memory timings can't be changed. The OP didn't help his case by buying memory that runs at 2.1V instead of 1.8V.
