Change from office 2000 to office 2007

Hello,Can i change from office 2000 to office 2007 running windows xp (sp3)

2007 will run on XP, if XP is service pack 3 and updated. But I'm not sure I see the advantage. There are a few things improved, but not a whole bunch.

I have Office 2007 on my laptop and my wife like the options and the screen layout better than the desktop that has Office 2000.
I have the 2007 disc and code but do not know how to change the program. As I don't know if I just run the disc or do I have to uninstall the Office 2000 first.
If I uninstall will I loss all my information and contact lists fron Outlook?
