Just a silly question
Has anyone been able to get this motherboard to work successfully in Windows Vista with a SATA DVD Drive?
I have tried several times and been unsuccessful.
Where their any BIOS updates issued before ABIT went away that addressed this?

Thanks,

XndeX

Latest BIOS for AN52 (June 2008), hopefully it helps your problem.

Tacoboy -

Well that was an excellent idea.
I got out my old floppy and updated the BIOS.

But Vista is still being a witch.

So I appreciate the thought.

I tried and gave my best effort.

I think this board is just meant for XP when it comes to SATA DVD Drives.

Hard drives are fine, Optical drives not so fine.

Again Thanks,

I think I'm just going to go back to Windows XP.
Maybe I'll go with the x64 edition.
Don't know just yet.

My SATA drive is faster and more reliable than it's current replacement.

Oh well looks like another reformat and reinstallation is on it's way this weekend.

Later,

Is it the first revision AN52 (Blue PCB). I've been running one since last January, great bang for the buck. I had BIOS rev 13.. I thought my 4x1GB G.Skill DDR2-800 setup was just incompatible. BIOS Rev 16 lets me run with no errors whatsoever. though Linux ran fine with 4x1GB on Bios rev 13. I have an SATA Burner, it's the Samsung 22x w/Lightscribe, nice burner, the works fine with Vista on this board. Make sure you install the nForce drivers from Nvidia otherwise Windows won't use the board properly and it will run like crap. I've been trying to figure out if this board will take a Phenom 1 like the rev16 update states, but I hear the board will only power upto 95 Watt CPUs before it kills itself. 3 stage VRE I think? Anyway, to answer the question - This board and Vista get along perfectly, and I don't have any SATA issues. Try meddling with your config, maybe new firmware for your drive?

I have the AN52 blue PCB and it works well with Vista Ultimate 64 Bit. I recently upgraded my Bios to rev. 16. Lucky for me I downloaded the Bios while I could at Abit. I use all SATA drive, opticals and hard drives. Currently using x2 6000, 8GB G. Skill DDR2 800 of memory. Has anyone use a Phenom on this board yet? I was wondering which Phenom would work with rev.16 since it's not posted at Abit's site. I have no hope it will ever be posted since they are defunct.

Yeah, they'll never update that - what makes me wonder is that for a different rev. of the AN52 they tested Phenoms the same month (or around it) that they tested CPUs for the original AN52... So, they added support but didn't test.

I'm not sure but I here the support for X3's might be less likely than X4's... Also, Our boards might not like the CPU's over 95W... From my guesses I don't think a 9950 will work but an X4 9850 or less might be what we need.

But, as Abit states, S3 won't work.. but hibernate is better. lol, they state it as a chipset issue, though I think some of their other nf520 boards are okay with it.. go figure. maybe I'm wrong though.

Nonetheless, Other AN52 models run Phenoms, so I wonder what is different about the PCB version that allows/disallows the Phenom to operate.
