HIS ATI 4870 1Gb card from NewEgg. Wow what a difference. Before playing Crysis Warhead,World in conflict, COD4 and Frontlines - fuel of war, I had no AA or AF on 1920 x 1200. Now I have 8X AA and 16X AF on and all settings high and holy crap! But I do have a issue now with Frontlines not working. I even tried uninstalling and re installing with patches and still the same problem! When I start the game it says Frontlines has encountered a problem and needs to shutdown. Anyone else having this issue? Is it just with ATI cards and this game. Im also picking up FAR CRY 2 Friday hopefully it will run great! And all this on my same year and a half old CPU and motherboard and I thought I would have issues there. But now I cant decide whether to got to a E8600 or a Q9650 quad core next ? Will see what prices do when Nehalem comes out. Thanks for any input on my Frontlines issue.

Victory. Glad it was a good upgrade.

 

Finally got my RMA # and what not's from VisionTek today. When I get my 4870 back im pondering selling it for the 1GB version, or the Sapphire Toxic version. Or maybe even a 9800GX2 but Im unsure if my 580W PSU is up to the task, 20A each on all 4 rails.

Try reverting to 8.9 drivers.

I would go with the 1gb 4870 newer tech and def worth it Spathotan! I was thinking about the GX2 also but so glad I went with this card. Im getting 90fps in COD4 everything maxed. 35 in Crysis. Will see what Far Cry 2 does this weekend!

I was playing Crysis on the 8.10 drivers before my card died. Was playing it on High everything with 4xAA @ 1680 x 1050, the only time my FPS dipped below 30 was when the creature busted through the frozen battleship. So we are about the same there, same on CoD 4 as well. Its a great card no doubt.

far cry 2 will be crushed, i have a much more modest rig, and i can crank it to max with 2x AA at a res of 1440x900, I get frame rates of 35-60 consistantly. it is a great game but it isnt nearly as pretty as crysis. i like it, but it is just a little bland. and youre guns jam ALL THE TIME!

Sounds like one of those games that is so realistic its ruins the feel. While not the best example, I got this feeling in Quake Wars. Constantly are you killed in 1 shot by crap you cant see, not even snipers/headshots. It really ruined the game quickly for me, unlike CoD or BF which is tollerable.

Did you try DriverCleaner? You might have some remnants from the nVidia drivers there.

Try a different Driver version
