I traded with my friend, I didn't actually pay for em. I gave him my old 9800 GX2s quads for these, he doesn't game and he got them through his company. So he said to give me 1 GX2 and he'll give me the 280s, but since I have nothing to do with the 2nd one I just gave it to him, I think he will just put it in a computer and sell it:P

@ L1qu1d,

What monitor / resolution do you play at? Do you really see a difference with the third 280 in the mix?

Reply to Noya

didn't test it with far cry, in general, yes it does. I play @ 1680x1050 in my room, but in my living room (where I play most of the time) I play @ 1920x1080.

Tri-sli scales very well for me in almost every game. It really shows its min and avg power in Cyrsis, where I can have 8xs AA and still do around 50-60 fps.

Hopefully my cuzin get his cards back soon, I want to see what 3 can do with Far cry 2. :)

Speed wise, my GX2 can run everything at close to 60 FPS at 1280x1024 res with no slowdown, but has major grahpical glitches (latest WHQL drivers).

1) When loading a new scene, there is a 50/50 chance the display will get curropted.
2) When exiting the game, there is around a 75% chance of the display driver failing, and not being able to recover (comp works, but display frozen).

Again, latest WHQL, no other games have issues (counting Crysis), see sig for comp specs.

Liquid, could you disable SLI and give us an idea how two of those beasts are scaling for now? I'll do it with my wimpy pair of 8800GT this weekend when I get the game. Hopefully they won't = the 9800GX2 current efforts. :p

Hey guys FWIW I installed last night running @ 1920 X 1080 with all graphical settings maxed 4xAA in DX10 on my brand new 4870x2.

So with all settings at max:
min : 28
max: 76
avg : 39

All numbers I took from FRAPS.

P.S. I was using the 8.11 Beta and it would not work at all until I installed the hotfix drivers.

I disabled SLI, it made no difference for me.

8xs AA 1680x1050 Maxed out DX 10.

Pretty impressive for 1 280 GTX.

AVG: 57.35
MAX: 95.99
MIN: 49.10

I'm surprised the min frame rate was actually 1 fps higher, which pretty much means no difference since 1 fps is just error zone.

I've run through again with 8x AA. Still 1680x1050 max settings.

Max. 70.40
Min. 27.11

At this setting your 280 is really kicking my 4870x2. The demo looked good but stutters at these settings. [H] reported no improvement from the 4870 to the 4870x2 so I'm wondering if there is still room for this to improve.

@ smartel, look forward to seeing your 4870 results.

Thanks for doing that. Impressive for one 280 for sure. Not impressive for SLI though. Is there a Far Cry 2 profile in your current driver versions NV control panel?

yes there is, it says SLI enabled, but honestly I don't see it helping. I think the driver didn't fully install properly, because fan options are gone for the 280s, I'm going to reinstalled 2nite and private message you the results so I don't have to flood the forums for our personal use:P

Don't worry about posting too many results. I like seeing how other systems perform. To keep the results easy to follow I've made a simple chart and will add it to my first post. I'll update this in the short term.

Single 280 GTX
well I reinstalled the drivers, and with a single card I got 49 fps AVG with a 39 min frame rate with 8x AA:S thats a 10 frame decrease.

After I reinstalled the divers again, now I get back to 57-59 each time the test is very random, I still think there are some bugs. I think I saw a 55 there too for AVG, all with AA 8x.

I'm going to try SLI right now and post back.

I too am finding that actual game play is giving me better frame rates than the benchmark. So far I'm not too impressed but I've been so looking forward to this game I'll give it a good chance before I pass judgement.
Also as L1qu1d has said it looks good but is not as good as Crysis. I've not played Stalker but for me Crysis and Warhead are the closest to photo realism that I've seen.

no1 is arguing that far cry has better graphics, but its the small details that they paid attention to that makes far cry a more credible scenario. For example in Far Cry 2, the engine (the team I should say) did a good job making sure that I felt like I was actually in Africa. The game is very colorful and diverse.

Crysis had a lot of highly detailed, but very repetitive scenes, green here, green there. I mean other than the see the game is gret and greed:P

Its just if you look at things like the detail they put in Crysis to make it look picture perfect is amazing.

While in Far Cry 2 if you look real hard, you can still tell that its a game for sure ( thats not to say that you can't tell in crysis, its just harder:P)

One thing i have noticed so far is the gameplay lacks "Hook-age". You want to keep your players playing.
For example, in the opening scene of COD4, you are kidnapped and see a bunch of people get shot before you yourself are assasinated. HOLY CRAP!!! In Crysis, you launch out of a plane and hit by some alien and drop a thousand feet into the ocean. BITCHIN! In FC2, you are in a taxi for a few minutes, unable to skip the cut screen. After a while i figured id see some action. Nope. At the end, your finally get a gun, only to pass out twenty seconds later. Not much "Hook-age" there.

Honestly its not a bad game, I like it. It really makes the player choose strategies before hand, rather than just be sneaky or guns blazing!:P
