1. Is this PSU good/average/bad? Did I waste my money on garbage?

My unit is a Dell Dimension E510
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Pentium 4 3.20 Ghz Processor
5.0 GB RAM
OCZ StealthXStream 500W ATX Power Supply PSU ATX12V
Nvidia GeForce 6800 GS GPU (XFX Geforce 8800 GT Alpha Dog 512MB in the mail on the way)
22'' Synchmaster Samsung monitor

2. My PC is 3 years old in January and I was wondering with my recent upgrades (GPU, PSU, Ram etc) ...would my unit be able to run games like Crysis, Fallout 3, etc..the top new games?

Not sure how good this is. First, is this used, a refurb, NIB, etc? If its refurb or nib, the deal is so so. I usually see these on newegg for about that price, although thats usually after rebate. IIRC, these are actually FSP made PSU, and have a noisy 12V rail issue. It never gets out of spec, its just higher then most PSUs. You could do worse, though for $40 it would be hard to do better.

As for your second question, that depends on what resolution you play. (you said 22" LCD, so I'll pick the standard res of 16x10.) I'm not sure the P4 is strong enough to handle any modern games at 16x10. The 8800GT is, but the CPU will be holding you back some. Also, I'm assuming you meant 4GBs of ram?

5 GB's of ram is possible. 2x2GB + 2x512 = 5GB

I bought one of the OCZ 600W for a back-up power supply last year on NewEgg for $40 after rebate. The 500W models are

currently $25 after rebate free shipping at NewEgg. www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341012

Yeah the model is new, not refurbished.

I actually have 5 GB of Ram, however my unit only recognized 4 GB maximum.

I emailed XFX and asked them the same question about my system, but they're customer support seems really slow.

I figured since I dont have one of those new dual or quad core processors, my system wouldn't be able to do AS WELL....i guess we'll see. (I hope i'm wrong)

I found this on overstock.com for 111.99....I can get it for 91.99 with my $20 discount.

I viewed another thread on here listing the top PSU's in order and Corsair was pretty well recommended.

Is it a TON better than the OCZ that I got?

Thoughts guys?

Is your XP media version 32 bit or 64 bit. I'm thinking that it is 32 bit as you only see 4 gigs of the 5 gigs. 4 Gigs is the max that XP 32 bit will recognize. You will only have about 2.8 to 3.4 available for program use.
If this is the case then I would remove the 512 memory as all it is doing is taking up space and contribiting to heat (not much).

If 64 bit version - forget what I said.

You can usually find some good deals at newegg for PSUs. It's an OK price.

Corsair, PC Power & Cooling (owned by OCZ), and certain Antec PSUs are good.

Yeah it's only 32 bit....

I wouldn't mind upgrading if I could find the program for cheap/free...but I have no interest in paying out the ass for one.

Enermax have a few very good models but their entry line is so so.
